Joyce Shanahan
Executive Director |
As executive
director, Joyce is thrilled at the growth of ICNC in recent years
and looks forward to working closely with the board and members in
the next year to further expand our services and value to Kinzie
companies.
Before coming to ICNC in 1999, Joyce was an entrepreneur for 14
years. During this time she developed a management/human-resource
consulting firm, a law practice and a community-based non-profit
organization which among other things, started a CPS small school on
the south side and a charter school initiative on the north side.
Joyce’s previous positions include editor for Yale University and
attorney/consultant for Mercer Consulting. Joyce graduated from the
University of Illinois Law School in Champaign as well as its
College of Commerce with highest honor (Finance/Economics).
Joyce lives in Rogers Park on the north side, a few houses from the
lake, which she swims in from May to November (so far without the
wet suit). With two kids now in college (University of Michigan and
Amherst Colllege) and only one left in high school (North Side Prep)
Joyce looks forward to revisiting her passion for travel to exotic
(and inexpensive!) cultures and for a quiet and organized home. |

Rosalyn Christian
Office Assistant |
Rosalyn spends much of her
day interacting with ICNC members, including participants in ICNC’s
new computer courses, job seekers and FCC tenants. This past year
Rosalyn completed a ten-week job developer course with the Chicago
Jobs Council and is becoming an invaluable resource to Priscilla in
running ICNC’s placement and training programs.
Prior to joining ICNC, Rosalyn spent 23 years working for Cook
Country Hospital. She has two grown children and three grandsons,
enjoys traveling with her family, cooking and event planning.
Rosalyn lives in Austin but often travels to the far south side to
spend time with her parents.

Lori Crowder
Office/Property Manager |
In her fourth year at ICNC, Lori has once again added to her job
description, by assuming the duties of FCC Property Manager. Given
most of the tenants already knew Lori from their phone calls and
office visits, it is proving to be a smooth transition, though she
would be the first to say she is never bored. In her “spare time”
Lori continues to ensure the office runs smoothly.
Prior to joining ICNC, Lori worked as a relocation specialist for a
major corporation, doing a little bit of everything, which prepared
her well for her current challenge. Lori resides in the south
suburbs with her husband and son where she fulfills her passion for
digging in the dirt. She is an active participant in her
neighborhood’s beautification effort and an active grandmother of a
one year old. Both Lori and Yolanda are avid Bear’s fans though when
it comes to baseball, Lori wears the White Sox cap rather than the
Cubs!

Steve DeBretto
Director of
Outreach and
Member Services |
Steve is in his
fourth year as ICNC’s director of outreach and member services. He
works closely with Andrew and Tom to ensure local companies are
benefiting from the full array of ICNC services, and brings these
businesses’ needs to the attention of local policy makers.
Steve and his wife Aksana, a native of Belarus, purchased their
first home this year in Rogers Park, close to the lake and
transportation. They lived in Poland for nearly three years before
coming to Chicago, and Steve’s previous post was editor of the
Warsaw Business Journal’s real estate magazine. He continues to
write freelance articles for business publications.
Steve enjoys biking and sailing, though he’s in the process of
selling his sailboat in the hopes of purchasing one with room for
more people and capable of longer passages. Until then, he’s happy
to crew on someone else’s.

Andrew Fogaty
Director,Illinois Small Business Development Center |
Andrew has recently moved from our outreach department to the
director position in our Illinois Small Business Development Center
(a move widely applauded by the outreach department ).
One of the newer members of ICNC , Andrew has an extensive
background in sales, sales management and web marketing. Originally
from Canada, Andrew happily became an American citizen in 2006 ( a
move widely applauded by Canada) and
joins fellow Canadians Pam Anderson and Keanu Reeves in the quest
to be taken seriously as workers and not be simply written off as "eye
candy".
Andrew lives in Lakeview and is very proud that his son Trevor is in
his third year at DePaul. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys web
design, playing the guitar badly and spouting unwanted advice on
a range of subjects he knows little about.

Yolanda Silva
Financial Manager |
Yolanda, who is
starting her sixth year at ICNC, manages ICNC’s finances. Yolanda
has a keen sense of detail, which is an essential skill given the
unique reporting requirements of each of our grants – which like our
number of tenants, is increasing each year.
Yolanda graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology in business and
continues to take college courses on an ongoing basis. This past
year she has been particularly interested in utility rates – and is
serving our building and members well with her quest for the best
deal from both gas and electricity vendors.
Yolanda is the eldest of seven bi-cultural children and spends much
time traveling and attending sporting events with her family. She
travels thoughout the world, including frequent trips to Mexico, to
visit her extended family.
An avid Cubs and Bears fan, Yolanda holds Chicago Bears season
tickets and in addition to briefing Joyce Shanahan on the
financials, keeps her up to date on the latest football facts in
Denver as well as Chicago.

Priscilla Torrence
Director of
Business Employment
Services |
Priscilla heads ICNC’s
placement program and works with companies throughout the corridor
to meet their employment and human resource needs. In addition to
working with employers, Priscilla meets with job-seekers on a
regular basis and has earned a reputation for being fair, firm and
someone “not to be messed with!”
Priscilla has a dual master's degree in Educational Management and
Human Resource Management from the Keller Graduate School of
Management.
Given her recent admission to owning
117 pairs of shoes (ending the guessing game of her colleagues) she
is no doubt using every closet! In her spare time, Priscilla enjoys
traveling - Hawaii being one of her favorite destinations - and also
leading a youth group at her church.

Toribio Ortiz
Head Engineer |
Toribio is the
head engineer at the Fulton Carroll Center and has been working here
since 1968. There is no nook or cranny at FCC that Toribio has not
seen or worked on during his many years here. In addition all three
of Toribio's children have at one time also worked at FCC. Toribio
is inventive and responsible for innovative solutions at the
property.
Toribio was born in East Chicago, Indiana. His
family moved to the State of Michoacan in Mexico, but after 20 years
in Mexico, Toribio returned to Chicago. He and his family reside in
the Pilsen community where Toribio enjoys nothing more than spending
time with his grandchildren. |

Fernando Ortiz
Maintenance Staff |
Fernando Ortiz
has worked for over 20 years at FCC and his hard work has helped to
make our property what it is today. Fernando takes great
pride in his work and in training many of the newer building staff.
Fernando lives with his wife and 16 year-old son in Pilsen, where he enjoys playing basketball with his
son and watching the Discovery Channel. One thing Fernando
does not enjoy is being interviewed or getting his photo taken. - he
confessed recently that he has not had his picture taken since his
wedding 19 years ago! This year, we caught Fernando running
from the camera, perhaps next year we'll see his face. |

Ismael Ortiz
Maintenance Staff |
Ismael "Jorge" has been
a valued member of FCC's Maintenance Staff for over 30 years. What
keeps Ismael at FCC is his fondness for the 100+-year-old building
and the many tenants he has befriended over the years. Originally
from Patzcuraro, Michoacan in Mexico, Ismael currently resides in
Little Village with his wife and 6 children, who range from 9 to 27
years.
|

Maximino Fuentes
Janitor |
Maximino will soon
start his sixth year as janitor of FCC. Maximino came to the United
States from Honduras 16 years ago. He has four grown children and
resides in the Logan Square neighborhood with his wife.
