Bilingual Custodian @ ICNC - Chicago, IL

ABOUT ICNC
ICNC works to strengthen the companies in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor on Chicago's Near West Side. In addition to representing and providing assistance to hundreds of companies in its community, ICNC owns and operates Make City, a small business incubator which houses 100 small business tenants in its 416,000 square foot facility.
 
ICNC also co-owns The Hatchery, a food and beverage manufacturing incubator in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood which assists food & beverage entrepreneurs grow their businesses. This facility is a one-stop-shop aiming to solve three major challenges in the industry: access to production space, financing, and resources.

POSITION ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Custodian will perform custodial duties in and around the facility.  Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of tasks in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment.  This is a full-time position and reports to the Maintenance Foreman.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Gather and dispose of trash daily in designated areas
  • Maintain building common areas by cleaning main entrances, hallways, elevators, and dock doors
  • Periodically clean exterior windows
  • Perform outdoor groundskeeping (e.g., picking up garbage, weeding, cleaning loading docks/compactor area, and snow removal/salting)
  • Clean and sanitize all building restrooms, using established practices and procedures and refilling soap and tissue dispensers
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture in designated areas
  • Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors in designated areas
  • Follow instructions on use of chemicals and supplies
  • Attend safety/building meetings
  • Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance
  • Request and order supplies and equipment for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Prepare written activity logs or repair status logs to document activity
  • Offer suggestions for new ideas, systems, or products
  • Communicate with all team members and tenants in a respectful, timely, and productive manner
  • Work occasional off hours and weekends
  • Perform other building-related tasks as required
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • One year of building maintenance, janitorial, or custodian experience
  • Be able to perform physical activities such as lifting heavy items (up to 80 lbs.), bending, standing, climbing or walking
  • Able to work safely in an environment containing cleaning materials, dust and noise
  • Have the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
  • Experience with work order software is a plus
  • Must pay attention to details and follow directions
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Have the ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to use email, text messaging, and handheld radio
  • Strong customer service and communication skills and personable
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning basic workplace technology (Outlook, Teams, and other platforms)
  • Must be punctual and a self-starter
  • Conversational proficiency in both English and Spanish required
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
Usually work indoors, but may on occasion work outdoors on projects.  May work in industrial setting or with motorized equipment. Are often exposed to machine sounds and noises that are distracting. Work with contaminants often such as cleaning supplies and solvents.  Walking bending, standing most of the day.  Safety is a top priority.
 
POSITION STRUCTURE & BENEFITS INCENTIVES
  • This is a full-time, hourly position; Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm; this position is ineligible to work remotely
  • Starting hourly range is $16-$18 per hour; commensurate with experience
