ICNC and the Hatchery have been awarded a grant to provide food to West side community members. Food will be prepared by Hatchery entrepreneurs and distribution with be at the Hatchery and through community-based organizations.
ICNC and the Hatchery are in search of a Kitchen Assistant who can assist in prepping food, skilled in customer service and familiar with logistics. The successful candidate will be a West side resident from one of the following communities: Garfield Park, Austin, Humboldt Park or North Lawndale. Curious, attention to detail, flexibility and customer friendly are some characteristics we are looking for in the winning candidate.

Salary and Benefits:
$15.00 - $17.00 per hour based on experience and health benefits.

Responsibilities:
Kitchen:
- Follow the prep list created by entrepreneurs
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, sauces etc.
- Clean, organize, stock and label storage areas and pantry
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc…
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
Entrepreneur Support:
- Orient entrepreneurs to kitchen, share expectations and cleaning checklists
- Manage kitchen supplies (cleaning materials, chemicals)
- Check entrepreneurs out of kitchen at end of shift
- Support entrepreneurs in handing off or assist delivering food to community partners
- Complete weekly kitchen close-out, inventory, tracking + deep clean
- Follow all COVID-19 food sanitation and health procedures, ensure entrepreneurs know and understand expectations
- Communicate issues, successes and challenges to Program Manager
Miscellaneous Responsibilities:
- Be onsite at all distribution days
- Support in data collection + surveys of community residents
- Support Hatchery facilities team as needed with additional projects and duties as assigned (10+ hours/week)
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience as a prep cook
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excel at problem solving and understanding big picture
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
- Valid Driver’s license a PLUS
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
- Have an active ServSafe Food Handler License
- Be able to lift 50 pounds
