Baker/Kitchen Assistant (full-time) @ Gifted Breads - Chicago, IL
Exciting opportunity to work at a Chicago start up! Gifted Breads is a gluten free, nut free bakery selling frozen breads to wholesale and direct to consumers.
This is a chance to get in an early stage startup that is growing month after month. We are looking for a kitchen assistant who is passionate, knows how to follow a recipe and wants to grow with us. The employee would be working directly with the founder, and if he/she identifies with our values, works well, is trustworthy, punctual and reliable, will be soon promoted to manager.
Shift:
40hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Starting at $18 per hour.
No bakery experience is required.
Job Responsibilities:
• Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work.
• Measure mixes, and prepares raw materials according to company specifications and recipes.
• Prepare breads.
• Monitor cooking completion times.
• Ensure it meets our quality standards.
• Package products.
• Bring products in and out of walk-in freezer. Ensure freezer is always organized.
• Clean up kitchen and material used, ensure kitchen clean-up checklists are completed.
• Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned.
• Immediately reports safety hazards and violations.
• Print labels and prepare boxes for shipping products direct to consumers.
• Manage 50lbs bags of flours.
• Stand up most of the day.
• Performs other duties as assigned by founder.

• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
Requirements:
• Food Handler or Manager Certification
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 7-8 hours.
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
• Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
