In addition to representing and providing assistance to hundreds of companies in its community, ICNC owns and operates Make City, a small business incubator which houses 100 small business tenants in its 416,000 square foot facility.
ICNC also co-owns The Hatchery, a food and beverage manufacturing incubator in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood which assists food & beverage entrepreneurs grow their businesses. This facility is a one-stop-shop aiming to solve three major challenges in the industry: access to production space, financing, and resources.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Building Maintenance/Laborer I is responsible for various building maintenance services as needed and/or assigned and assist skilled laborers in completing tasks in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the Maintenance Foreman

WORKING CONDITIONS
Usually work indoors, but may on occasion work outdoors on projects. Will be working outdoors in winter to clean grounds. May work in industrial setting or with motorized equipment. Are often exposed to machine sounds and noises that are distracting. Work with contaminants often such as oils, solvents, and paints. Are sometimes in high places such as roofs or on ladders. Safety is a top priority.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Building Maintenance/Laborer I is responsible for various building maintenance services as needed and/or assigned and assist skilled laborers in completing tasks in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the Maintenance Foreman
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gather and dispose of trash daily in designated areas
- Maintain building common areas by cleaning main entrances, hallways, elevators, and dock doors
- Periodically clean exterior windows
- Perform outdoor groundskeeping (e.g., picking up garbage, weeding, cleaning loading docks/compactor area, and snow removal/salting)
- Assist custodial staff with cleaning duties when needed
- Attend safety and building meetings
- Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial and minor maintenance assistance
- Request supplies and equipment for cleaning and maintenance duties
- Prepare written activity logs or repair status logs to document activity
- Retain assigned tools and equipment needed to perform tasks
- Offer suggestions for creating new ideas, systems or products
- Communicate with all team members and tenants in a respectful, timely, and productive manner
- Assist skilled maintenance with general and semi-skilled projects: basic plumbing, electrical, etc.
- Perform painting and minor carpentry
- Work occasional off hours and weekends
- Maintain preventive maintenance program, ensuring systems comply with applicable codes and safety protocols
- Maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment
- Perform other building-related tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- One-three years of general laborer and building maintenance experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred
- Basic knowledge of electrical, boiler, and plumbing systems, preferred but not required
- Have the ability to operate equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.
- Be able to perform physical activities such as lifting heavy items (up to 80 lbs.), bending, standing, climbing or walking
- Able to work safely in an environment containing cleaning materials, dust and noise
- Must have basic mathematical skills
- Have the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
- Must pay attention to details and follow directions
- Maintain cooperative working relationships
- Have the ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Ability to use email, text messaging, and handheld radio
- Strong customer service and communication skills and personable
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with work order software is a plus
- Knowledge of or interest in learning basic workplace technology (Outlook, Teams, and other platforms)
- Must be punctual and a self-starter
- Conversational proficiency in both English and Spanish preferred, but not mandatory

POSITION STRUCTURE & BENEFITS/INCENTIVES
- This is a full-time, hourly position; Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm; this position is ineligible to work remotely
- Starting hourly range is $18-20 per hour; commensurate with experience
