Deli Clerk - Chicago, IL

Skokie based Bakery and Deli is in need of DELI CLERK.
  • Reports to: Owners, Deli Manager, Bakery Manager, Supervisors

POSITION SUMMARY:
  •  Provides excellent customer service to  customers, cleans and maintains deli and retail areas and equipment, and acts as a conscientious and responsible member of the team.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attends to and meets or exceeds the needs of every customer, every time.
  • Effectively and respectfully interacts with customers to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Cleans, stocks, and maintains deli area, deli cases, and retail areas according to company needs.
  • Adheres to company, local, state, and federal standards for sanitation and food safety.
  • Maintains working knowledge of deli items, bakery items, retail items, recipes, and prices.
  • Operates cash register as needed and follows all front end and cash accountability procedures.
  • Trains other staff as needed.
  • Receives product deliveries, ensuring order and invoice accuracy.
  • Stocks, rotates, and merchandises products according to company procedures.
  • Maintains backroom, walk-in coolers, freezers, and food preparation areas according to company standards.
  • Assists with other tasks and in other departments as needed.

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs
  • Required constantly: standing, walking, grabbing, grasping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and manual dexterity.
  • Required frequently: climbing stairs, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Ability to withstand temperatures as encountered in coolers, freezers, bakery, and hot food areas.

Skills:
  • Ability to safely operate, clean, and sanitize deli equipment including: electric slicers (manual, automatic, vertical, and bread), toaster, microwave oven, steam tables, and food preparation equipment.
  • Ability to safely use, clean, and sanitize knives and other common kitchen implements.
  • Ability to use printing scales of several types.
  • Ability to cut, slice, and prepare menu items and sandwiches to company standards and customer specifications.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately prepare and assemble deli trays, catering, and other orders to company standards.
  • Ability to properly and efficiently wash and sanitize food storage containers and small wares.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment (brooms, mops, etc.) and cleaning products (detergents, bleach, etc.).
  • Ability to write up customer orders, and read and interpret documents such as order forms, product descriptions, vendor invoices, and internal communications.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and multi-task while maintaining focus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.

  • Wears appropriate clothing and footwear as required for the position.
  • Maintains a safe work environment according to all company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Obtains and maintains any necessary licenses as required by local, state, and federal regulations.

Salary:
$13.50/hour
