Farmer's Market Operations Manager - Chicago, IL
The Chamber of Commerce operates the Logan Square Farmers Market as a tool for economic and community development and neighborhood promotion, and has done so since 2007. At the height of the summer season, over 70 vendors may be selling at the Market, which is open to the public outdoors every Sunday, rain or shine, from mid-May through October, and indoors November through March. In April and May while the Market is closed, promotional and administrative activities are carried on in preparation for the season to follow.
Position Duties:
The Farmers Market Operations Manager (OM) reports to the Executive Director. Under the guidance and direction of the Executive Director, the OM is responsible for the activities necessary to produce and operate the Market. Including, but are not limited to:
Ideal candidates will be independent and exercise significant initiative in carrying out their duties, in developing enhancements to the operation and appeal of the Market, and in expanding the use of the Market for economic development and marketing purposes by Chamber members and other organizations and groups in the community. This may include, for example, coordination with the staff in fundraising and grant seeking to fund additional programming and market enhancements.
The OM is a regular part time position, requiring an average of 20 hours per week. There are seasonal variations in work time required, but the OM must be able to work every Sundays, 7 AM-4PM. The remainder of the hours are on a flexible schedule during the week.
Hourly Rate:
$15.00
Individuals that are interested in local food access, economic development and local business support are encouraged to apply. The position can become full time with benefits if the OM is interested in additional responsibilities to support the work of the Chamber.

- Maintaining all Market records, including vendor attendance and SNAP transaction data
- Recruiting and selecting vendors through an application process
- Scheduling, monitoring and retaining vendors
- Producing the weekly e-newsletters for customers and volunteers
- Communicating weekly with vendors during market season
- Recruiting, training and supervising volunteers
- Oversee composting program, on site during the season
- Performing other duties related to operation of the Market
- Managing social media accounts for the market
- Maintaining and updating market website
