Kitchen Assistant @ Gifted Breads

Gifted Breads is a, women and minority owned, gluten-free artisan bakery nestled in East Garfield Park, Chicago. Here, we stand firm in our belief that being gluten-free should never equate to sacrificing taste or texture. Tathy founded the company because she had celiac disease and could not find a good alternative for bread without gluten.
 
We are located at The Hatchery, a culinary community located in East Garfield Park, Chicago.
 
Gifted Breads active managing partners are Tathy Vosgerau and Regina Trillo.
 
Job Overview:
 
Location: 135 N Kedzie Avenue
Hours of operation and work:
  • Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm
    • Occasionally we will have tradeshow or events on the weekends and work will be expected. You will be paid extra. We may give you a break during the week or we will pay you overtime.
 
We're seeking the right candidate to play a crucial role in our organization's growth by ensuring that production meets the highest standards consistently and safely. This individual must possess exceptional organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a strong aptitude for following instructions promptly.
 
Whether you're an experienced baker or new to the craft, we're interested in hearing from you! We're seeking a dedicated team member for a long-term position who is eager to learn and grow alongside us. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary. Join us and embark on a rewarding journey in the world of baking
 
The job would consist mainly in assignments inside (90%) and outside the kitchen.
 
Inside the kitchen:
  • Baking breads and ensuring all production is properly made according to instructions;
  • inventory and raw material control;
  • shipping online orders;
  • packaging breads;
  • cleaning up the kitchen;
  • attending online meetings;
  • calling stores;
  • following health requirements and company’s guidelines;
  • Hairnets and beard restraints must be worn at all times, including when packaging. Testing for gluten Prepare/ship pallets
 
Outside the kitchen:
•       Delivering orders (driving is not necessary);
•       Purchasing raw materials (occasionally).
 
Requirements:
•       Ability or willingness to learn to operate oven and proofer (we can teach);
•       Ability to go inside walking freezers to control inventory;
•       Food handler and willingness to do the course for manager certificate;
 
Physical Requirements:
•       Ability to carry heavy flours (+- 50lbs), mixer bowl (short distances) (+-50lbs), product boxes (20lbs);
•       Ability to stand up for 8h

PTO/Vacations:
•       PTO: 1h paid leave for every 40h worked.
•       Vacation: 5 business days after one year of work (decided by GB)
 
Rate of Pay:
•       $20-$25 per hour – depends on experience.
 
Full-time Position: 40h/week, 8h per day.
·     Career Path Progression: As a startup we have plenty of room to grow. As we grow, our plan is to make our team grow with us, taking into account their strongest suits and preferences. There will be room to grow to Kitchen Manager within 6 months.
·     Will they manage staff? As of right now, it would be only two people in the kitchen.

·     Our team is bilingual, ideally would be able to communicate in English, however, if we find someone who is responsible, committed to the job and wanting to learn we are ok with only Spanish.
