Prep Cook Paid Internship @ Cajun Cafe Chicago - Chicago, IL

Cajun Cafe Chicago offers catering services to corporation, institutional dining, and curated events.

Internship Description & Objectives:
  • Provide quality and detailed presentation to all food items in a timely manner
  • Stockand maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period
  • Identifying dietary specifications, including preparation, execution, and presentation when specified
  • Know and comply consistently with standard portion size, cooking methods, quality standards, kitchen rules, policies and procedures
  • Prevent the spoilage and contamination of foods by implementing proper sanitation practices while ensuring compliance with policy and health regulations
  • Maintain a clean workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment
  • Assist in the daily cleaning of the pantry, cooking line, prep kitchen, dish area, reach-in cooler and prep area. Report any maintenance or repairs needed to the Executive Chef

Required Skills:
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Authorized to work in the United States–must have valid Social Security Number for payroll
  • Have ServSafe Food Handler Certificate (or be willing to obtain prior to start date)
  • Must be vaccinated against Covid-19
  • Great time management and organizational ability; able to multitask in a dynamic, and fast paced environment
  • Ability to work with minimal direction or supervision to complete assigned tasks once you’ve learned the process

Additional Requirements:
  • Complete a 2-4 hour stage (aka trial run)
  • Slip resistant shoesComputer familiarity especially checking & sending emails and using Microsoft Excel is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to an insured car is a plus as for future employment opportunities with company

Number of Hours per Week:
20 hours per week

Schedule:
Business is in operation Monday through Friday 7am to 2pm, there is some flexibility to choose your own schedule.

Location:
The Hatchery @ 135 N. Kedzie Ave. Chicago, IL 60612.

Hourly Rate:
$15.00/hour
