Varca is a small but mighty team of motivated and creative people. We design and produce high-end, high-fashion wedding gowns, distributed in retailers worldwide. Varca’s development team is based in Chicago and the majority of our production is based in NYC. Our primary focus changes seasonally based on bridal sales seasons and new collection development and production, with a new collection launching for April New York Bridal Market. Sales to real brides and production and inventory management is year round.
We need a highly ambitious person to join our team as Chicago Production and Technical Design Lead. This role requires organization and prioritization to meet rolling deadlines. All our gowns are made-to-order with a 4-to-6-month lead time, with over 30 different styles in our current offering, all requiring a unique and lengthy bill-of-materials, organizing and tracking orders is complex but exciting.
Primary Responsibilities
● Assist designer in creating and finalizing tech packs for all new styles from most recent collection released in April of 2024. Factory production needs to finish before October 2024
● Assist designer/lead pattern maker in truing, finalizing, and checking all patterns and cutters musts before patterns are sent to NYC to be digitized and graded
● Assist designer in updating tech packs for all past styles
● Production lead is responsible for being in the shop from 9:00am - 5:00pm to manage all in house sewists
● Organizational planning of in-house production deadlines
● Distribution of in-house production between sewists
Prep projects for in house sewists includes
● Verifying all materials necessary are in house
● Cutting
● Providing guidance throughout production
● Quality control throughout production
● Communication with operations team when in house orders are ready to final QC and ship
● Assist with creation and maintenance and of materials “bible” with operations team
● Shop organization and maintenance is the responsibility of everyone
During New Collection Development (January-April)
● Assist designer by creating temporary tech packs throughout the design process
● Organize and catalog all new designs and patterns
● Track changes to patterns and materials
● Finalize tech packs once designs are complete
● Keep consistent records of fit and design alterations made in fittings
You Have
● A love for the bridal industry, passion for fashion, and respect for start-ups who have forged their own path
● 5 years professional experience in sewing, cutting, technical patternmaking, and or fashion production
● Google Sheets for tracking orders and creating tech packs
● Inventory order placement and tracking experience
● Managing production calendars
● A positive attitude and team player mindset
● Promptness, a bias for action, and a drive to learn new things
