OVERVIEW:
Great Central Brewing Company (GCBC) is looking for a talented Quality Assurance Technician (QA Tech) to be a part of our team. We are willing to train the right person! GCBC is a craft-dedicated contract brewing facility in the West Loop of Chicago. Our QA Tech will perform duties in Analytics, Micro & Yeast Management, Sensory Analysis and Packaging. The position is full time and could include weekends with flexibility for early mornings or late nights.

Responsibilities:
Specifically, the responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to:
- Complete sample collection and run routine testing for brewhouse, fermentation and packaging testing (ie. alcohol, cell counts, pH, sensory panel).
- Perform microbiology testing, media preparation, enrichment, and PCR.
- Maintain QC databases; including but not limited to data entry and data analysis and follow-up with other departments.
- Ensure general cleanliness of lab and instrumentation; perform routine maintenance & calibration on laboratory equipment, troubleshoot analytical issues and maintain consumable inventory levels.
- Maintain all SOPs and fulfill other duties as assigned by Quality Manager.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Food Sciences
- Three years of working experience in Food and Beverage industry is a plus
- Attention to detail, ability to produce accurate, precise and reproducible data
- Familiar with standard laboratory instrumentation (ie pH meters, spectrophotometer, microscope)
- Ability to operate and use a PC computer, proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly
- Ability to lift, drag, carry, and manipulate hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, and reservoirs
- Ability to twist / turn and stand / walk on a continuous basis
- Ability to work on your feet for over eight hours at a time
- Ability to work in loud production environments (80+ db)
- Ability to work with chemicals of varying composition
- Ability to work in damp / wet areas
- Ability to work at heights (ie ladders)
- Ability to work all shifts, additional hours & weekends as necessary
