REPORTS TO: Quality Manager
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Hourly, Shift
HOURS OF OPERATION: Mon-Fri, 7:00am-10:00pm
Description of Position
The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for duties in several areas of Quality Control/Quality Assurance. This position will perform duties in Analytics, Micro & Yeast Management, Sensory Analysis and Packaging. The Quality Technician will report directly to the Quality Manager and communicate deviations from raw material and product specifications. The position is full time and could include weekends with flexibility for early mornings or late nights.
Duties of Position
· Run routine testing, such as Bitterness units, color, VDKs, ABV, cell counts, viabilities, gravities, pHs, XTF, ATP, total sulfur, acetaldehyde, PAN, fill heights, protein, total polyphenols etc.
· Perform vitals on wort, 0h, 24h, fermentation, crash, BBT and packaged samples
· Conduct microbiology testing; including sample inoculation, media preparation, and PCR.
· Maintain BrewLog, Fermentation, and Micro databases; including but not limited to data entry, record keeping, trending, data analysis and follow-up with brewing and cellaring teams
· Set up and run daily sensory panel and sniff test
· Conduct package testing for CO2, TPO, DO, AE, seam checks on cans
· Complete sample collection for fermentation and brewhouse testing
· Provide sterile sample containers to brewing and packaging staff for micro sampling
· Ensure micro supplies are maintained correctly in order to ensure sterility before use
· Ensure general cleanliness of lab and instrumentation; perform routine maintenance & calibration on laboratory equipment, troubleshoot analytical issues and maintain consumable inventory levels
· Have a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency, while constantly evaluating work practices in the spirit of continuous improvement
· Willingness to work overtime when necessary
· Ability to work in hot/cold environments and lift 50lbs
· All other tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager
Qualifications:
· 1 year work experience in a lab and/or experience in brewing, food industry or pharmaceutical
· Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Bioengineering Associate degree with experience is also welcomed
Compensation and Benefits: This is a competitive hourly position based on experience. $18-$20 range
PTO and paid sick leave, health and dental benefits, a health club reimbursement ($50/month), a CTA reimbursement ($50/month), 401k program, and a PPE stipend ($100/yr) all after a success 90 day onboarding.
