Seamstress @ Varca

About Varca
Varca is a small but mighty team of motivated and creative people. We design and produce high-end, high-fashion wedding gowns, distributed in retailers worldwide. Varca’s development team is based in Chicago and the majority of our production is based in NYC. Our primary focus changes seasonally based on bridal sales seasons and new collection development and production. In our Chicago atelier we produce custom gowns, new collection samples, and designs with limited production.

We are seeking a seamstress who will be responsible for providing exemplary sewing expertise in-house at our Chicago Studio. This includes but not limited to: construction of complex garments, expectations related to fit, custom modifications, and re-sizing of garments.

Primary Responsibilities
● Sew garments assigned in a timely manner
● Handle all aspects of garment production from start to finish
○ machine sewing
○ hand finishing
○ pressing
○ quality control
● Accurately measure and finish garments according to Varca size chart and tech packs
● Responsible for starting and completing individually assigned projects
● Communication with operations team and production lead
● Shop organization and maintenance is the responsibility of everyone

During New Collection Development (January-April)
● Assist designer in creating and testing new ideas
● Track alterations made to designs throughout the process in collaboration with production lead

You Have
● 5+ years professional experience in sewing (bridal is preferred)
● Experience with corset construction and corsetry materials
● Experience with difficult to sew fabrics such as chiffon, tulle, silk, and stretch
● A love for sewing, passion for fashion, and respect for start-ups who have forged their own path
● A positive attitude and team player mindset
● Promptness, a bias for action, and a drive to learn new things

Hours and Hourly Rate
● $20 - $30 based on experience
● 20 - 40 hours

Location and Working Hours
● 2010 W Fulton St in the ICNC Incubator
● 9:00am - 5:00pm DEI
