ICNC's 2019 ImpactICNC supports and strengthens the West Side community and its businesses and community members through incubation, business advising, workforce development, and neighborhood planning.
From opening the new food and beverage incubator, The Hatchery, to creating a new culinary program offered for young adults on the West Side, to upholding the Kinzie Corridor Planned Manufacturing District - 2019 was a year of growth and exciting achievements for all of us at ICNC.
Letter from Steve DeBretto, ICNC's Executive DirectorBy any measure, 2019 was a pivotal year for modern urban industry on Chicago’s West Side. After a year and a half of study and analysis by the Department of Planning and Development, the Chicago City Council passed a zoning ordinance reaffirming our Kinzie Industrial Corridor Planned Manufacturing District, ensuring that bakers, brewers, florists, and countless other small companies that make and move products can continue to do business close to the Loop, their workforces, and each other.
ICNC and joint venture partner Accion opened the doors to The Hatchery, a first-of-its-kind food and beverage manufacturing incubator with 56 private kitchen spaces. It’s filling up quickly, and neighborhood business owners are working right next to product development teams from multinational corporations; they’re sharing ideas, skills, and experiences. And our original incubator, Make City, is fully occupied with more than 100 energetic, growing urban manufacturing businesses who challenge us to do better every day. As ICNC continues to grow – incubating more businesses, weighing in on public policy, and driving inclusive economic and community development – we count on you, our members and supporters, to help us help the companies who create jobs, wealth, and opportunity in our neighborhood and beyond. Workforce DevelopmentThe Workforce Development Department provides HR and personnel management support to small businesses and helps local people find local jobs, along with two job training programs - a women's EMT training program and Impact Culinary Training.
Economic DevelopmentThe Economic Development Department advocates to the City of Chicago’s decision makers on behalf of small businesses in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor Planned Manufacturing District.
